Were the centres in both ends of the crankshaft there for checking the shaft or were they for centring that end of the crank with the centre on the inner face of the crank web for main bearing grinding & big end pin hole location,
That is a very good point Charles, One I did not think of.

Do you have a lathe? If so put the crank between centers and do the test again. it would be interesting to see the results.

What cunning plan re the prop?

It could be sent to me and I can cast a new one.

I can use the old one as a pattern to make a new one even if one blade is missing.

And now you know why Not to use a puller.... ever!

I would say just use a grinder to get the rest of the flywheel off, you can't heart it any more!

So it the engine over heating when used on the boat or only in the wash down tank. is there a lot of water coming out of the tell tail or is it only a dribble? I have made a lot of props and tweeked all of them and loaded the engine up to almost the point of stopping, as long as you have good water ...

I would say have a look at the water jacket, I had the same problem and found the brass fitting was half blocked.
