I've not tested the latest iteration on the water but have been playing with a baby prop on the pond that really lets it rev...

97cc Seagull

This is a project I've picked up and put down several times over the past few years so a lot of the details are forgotten or sketchy but still some of you might find it a quirky project. In looking to make a 'gull go a tad quicker on a budget, I kept tripping up on the limitations of the bottom end....

Just had a look through - great stuff! Looks like you had great weather.

Sadly, everything was working against me this year and I failed to get down.

Re: Seagull Race Lerryn 2017

Yes, despite lacking a running motor, or boat, or crew, I'm interested! Don't worry about divulging the theme early though, if I make it (and I'd like to), I've plenty of other things to sort first.

...but it's not too late now!

However, I'm down a skipper and a vessel.
I'm sure I can press gang a shipmate or two but it won't be the same without the green old town camper.

Lynmouth race

Re: Block casting void near exhaust port?!

After some more prodding since posting, I agree it's there on purpose. I'm not sure about cooling exhaust gasses as the heat transfer would be minimal. Probably more about keeping as much water in the block as possible to cool the overall unit. Anyway, I brazed it up to a fashion. There are some pin...

Block casting void near exhaust port?!

So I delved into a crack in my block this evening. Most likely split with rust/frost or a combination of the two. Lots of cracks around the non water inlet side of the exhaust stub. Upon digging a bit, it looks like there originally might have been a void under here. tmp_8864-IMG_20170613_2154271066...

Nice pics! I just had a route through the seagull boneheap yesterday but it's too early to be thinking about next year yet.

Re: Lerryn Seagull Race 2016

Thanks Jon, I have an old amal seagull carb but it's pretty scummy. I chose this old bike one as I have heaps of jets lying around for it so had a go at jetting it. The carb doesn't need to do a very refined job, so long as it starts and the mix is not lean at full throttle it's satisfactory for thi...
