Re: Petrol tank filler neek thread size

Some more pictures of the tank that came in with one Seagull restoration.

The round hole with the two cut outs had been brazed over the hole with four sides, I think an angle grinder and a disc cut those out?

A difficult British Seagull restoration

A chap in Pretoria had an old Seagull and asked could I restore it for him? I replied as a yes and he sent the motor down by courier, I spent a year in the restoration, part of which was waiting on the required spare parts from SOS as the SAPO service is one of the worst on delivery in recent years....

Re: Petrol tank filler neek thread size

Nudge, thanks, The tank and a spare plastic screw in cap is now with the engineer, he will sort it out when he is at work next week. When I mentioned 8 and 55 he said that will be correct, so possibly that is where the issue is with the caps that I have in stock, the one I gave him originally was th...

Re: Petrol tank filler neek thread size

The cap I gave him had the brass fitting made to fit it, when I got them from the engineer both were a perfect fit. That is why I ask, was there another thread that was used? Did I fit that cap to another Seagull that I restored? Its gone now of course! is the correct thread and pitch 8 TPI 55 degre...

Re: Seized 102 power head

Hugz, thanks on the info.

Is the pinion the same, just the number of teeth on the crown wheel is changed?

If so how many teeth will the correct crown wheel have?

I ask as I have a few spare ones here.

Re: Seized 102 power head

I have found a note that I wrote dated 07/04/2016 which gives engine number WHCH 144R8 as a 1968 motor which was and export and not on record.
it is a 102 series.

Re: Middy engine carb, Amal

Some images of my Britannia Middi engine.

If you click on a selected image it will enlarge for a better size.

I took the unit apart and bead blasted the parts that I could, hence the new looking motor in some pictures.

Re: Petrol tank filler neek thread size

Thanks on the info. The cap was a perfect fit when collected from the engineer. Then later on I found that none of the caps I have on the various British Seagulls I have will fit. It was not fitting when I gave the brass turning and a spare cap to a friend who was asked to straighten the ends of the...

Re: Middy engine carb, Amal

The carb, I am assuming it is an Amal?

It has a hand lever for the throttle and a flat flange that bolts to the engine block.

Middy engine carb, Amal

I have just checked my Britannia Middy motor out, will the Amal fit a Seagull was the idea? The answer is no as the mount has a two bolt fastening. This motor has never run, so I can call it New old Stock, its never even had petrol in it and I still have the original packing crate. The engine has a ...

Petrol tank filler neck thread size ?

I restored a real wreck of a Seagull for a chap in Pretoria, the engine had been laying around in a farm for decades, the petrol tank had the neck of a cars radiator fitted, plus a large hole around it. I imported a spare tank from SOS for that motor , wanting to re use the damaged tank I then had a...

Re: A 40 Plus Mk2, my next project

The engine has most of its required parts, next is to sort out the rest of it.

The tank is a spare one, the filler neck was made from a solid brass bar and turned to suit the filler cap, however it does not fit!

Re: A 40 Plus Mk2, my next project

Thanks for the image, now I know what is missing, that hook was not on my motor when it arrived.

Progress this far was good, my box of parts is now looking like an engine.
