Unlike your fuel of choice Neal it would contain no Gin, Ice or Lemon!

At £1.09 a litre for cheap petrol, Methanol has got to be a viable alternative!

Re: ON Standing 1/4 Drag Run on the Thames.

There are 15 ON's & OP's plus 5 OJ's which are their forerunners, built under the Marston title, that the registry know about in the World (Sept 21 2009) but 3 or 4 seem to turn up a year, since we've been looking. Perhaps the combatitants might permit SD's to enter the fray, or indeed any strai...

ON Standing 1/4 Drag Run on the Thames.

So the intrepid ON speed freaks are going for a speed trial on the Thames before it freezes over. Because of the disparity between the available hulls, I would suggest changing hulls at half time, & the winner being the skipper with the greastest winning time margin. All that will be needed is a...

Re: Naval Stores

Did they have inflatable boats in the 1940's? 1 man with an SD could move a 16 foot clinker around Scarpa Flow a lot faster than 2 men rowing on a windy winters day & for a lot longer. Inshore fisher men & there must have been quite a few, might well have worked under the control of the Navy...

Re: Bet you have not got one of these Bruce (Part1)

Why would you mend something that isn't broken?

You haven't checked the top main bearing yet, have you?

The Pilot & this was the last of them was a very nice little motor, very well designed, but more fragile than the Seagull equivalent.

Re: bluddy electrics ....

Wood Man it looks like the last of the Seagull outboards to have used Birmabright aluminium alloy was probably the SN & SNP pre war motors, though only 1 has surfaced, so we can't be sure it wasn't just to use up the last of the Marston stockholding. Perhaps H-A could get one of his mates to che...

Re: Two weeks ago, this seagull was a boat anchor

If the North West passage thaws next year H-A, what say you to putting some new rings in an SD & motoring over the top, if we leave in the next couple of weeks we could be there by July. If we head due North up to the pole & then left 5 or 6 degrees, it should be no problem, after the pole i...

Re: 40+ Crankcase gets very hot!

I have a hand held infra red thermometer that I check main bearing temps when I first start testing my race motors, just to see if I'm over doing it on the main bearing loading front.

Your 75% right H-A, the tank I checked first has the tag, but the other 3 have no trace of one.

Re: Oz SD Naval Special

H-A we've seen what happens to a Seagull, when you start it before your sure it's fit to run!

SD's didn't have the later, wire cap retaining spring, the brass chain attaches to a small tag at the bottom of filler neck.

Re: 40+ Crankcase gets very hot!

Hot crankcases are quite unusual in Seagulls, ( hot is almost too hot to touch) & is caused by the main bearings or big end running very tight, often caused by distortion in the crank or the crankcase. Both of these would require a full strip down if the motor is important to you, is there any e...

Perhaps it reads FP 2552 C1 which would make it a March 1971 40+.
