Re: TC-W3 Oil

There are only so many, few, refineries and a lot of brands and the oil in Brand X @ £20 wil...

Ok,so here we go again.Got the head gasket and other bits, put it together, nice bright spark, new needle so not flooding,no go. :( Still sounds like a crankcase leak and as I split the crankcase, yup,I know,I know, not unless absolutely necessary  So to fix,can I use sealant,as I have used on the...

Re: Scratches on the cylinder wall

So I got the old dear running again, for a little while anyway. And she's back on the bench in bits I definitely need a new plug lead. The one I made up will get her started but is not a permanent job. It still sounds like a leaking crankcase.Would a drive shaft full of fuel be an indicator that the br...

Re: Scratches on the cylinder wall

Yep.Cleaned and set points to .5mm/20ths.I jury rigged a lead today and got better spark and an attempt at starting. So I'm sure it's the lead.I will be ordering a new one and will get a spring or two at the same time.I actually got a couple of new plugs from the local tractor dealer,he had two lying...

Re: Scratches on the cylinder wall

I took a small video on my phone of the initial turning and sent it into the big blue yonder never to be seen again, but here's a pic I took as well this afternoon.
I also checked the resistance and I'm getting 4k ohms.

Re: Scratches on the cylinder wall

The timing was away off as in that the base plate had been turned.I did know that it is fixed timing but I wasn't aware that it had been moved until I spoke to John Williams who suggested I check it out.I hope this enlightened anyone who was wondering So I have stripped, cleaned and reassembled every...

Re: Core plug, welch plug (welsh plug) removal

I have tried the coke method with limited success. These days I use a 5l bucket, three or four table spoons of bread soda,a12v battery,a s/s fork but any piece of s/s will do.Tie a piece of heavy copper wire to rusty component, connect to neg. Tie another piece of wire to s/s fork connect to pos side....

Re: Scratches on the cylinder wall

Thank you for the quick response. I have no idea what the problem was.I bought it at a boat jumble,£20,"All it needs is a new plug" .I wasn't daft enough to believe that but at £20I could afford to take the chance. Had hard time getting it started, timing was away off.Corrected that.Cleaned...

Scratches on the cylinder wall

New to the forum and haven't a clue about about Seagull single cyl Bought this a week or so ago.Had a bit of bother getting her fired up,however after a chat with John Williams,I got her running.Timing was as far out as Fanad lighthouse. When I did get her to run she wouldn't run right, reminded me o...
