Re: 102 bracket

Yep, the clamps are fine. Is the bracket bronze or ali? Its hard to say from the pic, the thrust block is nice either way but if its bronze then break out the brasso! (or caustic soda solution for any brass or bronze components, a really easy if a bit messy way of cleaning them but don't dunk any al...

FVP cases, crank, con-rod, piston

All in usable condition, I've measured the main bearings and they are within tolerance.

There is a cylinder head but it seems this engine was dropped at some point because there's a chunk broken off, which I have. Maybe it can be repaired.

Sale or swap.

Re: Another JM magneto resurrected

Great info. I have three points boxes not including the newcomer so I'll have a go with that. I also have two 6v batteries. Is 6v better than 12v in this case? I will look for this 'farad' range of which you speak but bear in mind I recently looked up a web page titled 'How to Use a Multimeter'... w...

Re: Another JM magneto resurrected

Not being up to speed on these things I am assuming you mean the lugs at either end of the coil which I have just measured as .4385 which on handy-dandy conversion table gives the actual fraction as .4375 or 7/16" :)

Re: What colour is a Seagull's leg?

The yellowish undercoat may well be zinc-chromate primer which came in yellow and green forms. Seagull appear to have mostly used the green stuff. It is difficult stuff to get hold of here in the EU (at least for another week anyhow) on account of it being jolly poisonous. The colour of the top-coat...

Re: Another JM magneto resurrected

Not giving up on MK4 CDIs, but I want to test the eight or so spare units I have, which it seems can only be done dynamically. As you say, it either works or it doesn't - I have never known any electronic ignition system to be any different. If you know of a better test then do tell us. So a spark a...

Re: Another JM magneto resurrected

Thanks for that Hugz, I'm sure will be useful when I get into it. Was it co-incidence that I recently made a magneto test thingy the other day? It was supposed to be for testing Mk4 CDI but could just as easily be used for trying to energise Villiers coils etc. Hadn't thought of your spark-plug acce...

Re: Another JM magneto resurrected

Just read this post, loving your work. I'd seen your earlier video on coil replacements so |I knew that stator would be in good hands. I simply don't have the patience, although I'll be attempting to prise apart a Villiers magneto soon and if successful it may well find its way onto a lowly SJP I'm ...
