Re: Fun with seagulls

Hey Andy

Take a step back, don't rush in. Your carb sounds like it's got the remains of old petrol in it, brownish treacle like gunk. You'll be wise to give the grab a complete overhaul. Like wise with the rest of the engine.

Enjoy yourself.

Re: New to this site and Seagulls

Hi, welcome to the forum. You better get used to the thought of these two engines running again, they will that's for sure. I'd say to you to spend a bit of time and look through all the past threads, it will take a bit of time but you'll find every answer in their. Seagulls never die on this site. ...

Re: cooling flow

Sounds like a good job well done. I folowed your eample and stipped down one of my blocks, and found the same situation, lots of gunk. Can anyone tell me if the copper gasket is made up of three laminates of thin copper or has my head been fitted with three gaskets? As I had the whole engine strippe...

Re: Corrosion Remover

Hi Guys With this post and another on the go similar, it got me thinking maybe since I have my two spare engines stripped it wouldn't hurt to clean out the blocks. First I find one of the blocks is with screw heads, so I decided to leave well alone, however the other had bolts and they came off ok. ...

Re: 1968 FP Renovation Problems

Hi Mike
I'm renovating a forty plus and have just stripped the drive shaft off the pinion. I'm not sure what difference there is between your project and mine but I'll take a few pics tomorrow and post them for you to see what it looks like stripped.

Re: Gearbox Sludge

Holy sh.t, now that's goop! I don't know how many people have the little owners handbook with their engines, I was lucky to get one with one of the engines I bought, anyway in it, it states under no circumstances use grease in the gears as this prohibits the free movement of the workings, only use o...

Re: My Minus SJM 661L5

Never mind the Bud, how the hell did he get it stripped down looking so clean? What's the best stuff to clean off all the dirt and grease? I was thinking of a bath of gunk, is there anything better. I know petrol does a good job but will it be better than the forementioned "Gunk"? I assume...

Re: Gearbox Sludge

Hi Ken Gerard here up in Ayrshire. I'm just starting my winter projects, two 40+ builds. One was seized, the other the wire fastening the screws on the piston arm snapped, the wire slipped down into the bore and damaged the rings along with heavily scratching the piston and barrel, hence a rebuild. ...

Pistons, what's the sizes

Hi Guys Does any of you guys have the exact sizes of piston rings for a 40+. I was talking with a guy regarding rings and he was asking for the depth, width, diameter but unfortunately I don't have the tools to measure these sizes, and it's not available on the data sheets I've looked at. I'd apprec...

Re: Made another boat.

That's experience for you, nice looking and very quickly built. Will you keep us informed how it acts in the water, this is what I'm hoping to achieve over the winter. With some little extra fancy decor work hopefully. Did you make this off the top of your head or did you use plans, I know you said ...

Re: Success

Congratulations mate, sounds like you got it right. One small concern, you say you run it for a minute or so without water, be careful, guidlines say don't run it dry for more than 30 secs. We don't want all your good work wasted by one silly error. Get a bigger bucket and try the waterflow, but wel...

Hi Ken Like yourself I'm from the South West and the old birds are not too freely had unlike our friends south of the border they seem to be hoarding them. I hope you enjoy your projects, I too have two 40+ on the workbench, and like you I get great help from this forum and the guys. Keep us up to d...
