Re: Totally off topic.... welding

Hugz

Yes the MIG in your link should do the job

As for your rust repair, maybe scour the wreckers for a panel in good nick, then chop out that section of bodywork. Lap joining into your vehicle will make a better welding job than butt joining.

Re: Totally off topic.... welding

Hugz Stick arc welders put alot of heat into the job & will burn sheetmetal into oblivion. Basically, the job is too thin for stick welding. Alternative methods like MIG & TIG will get you roped into hiring bottles, Disposable bottles are ridiculously expensive for the gas within However, if...

Re: Piston Ring Gap

A large ring end gap can have several consequences. Firstly & most obviously is the loss of compression & combustion pressure Secondly, is the increased likelihood of the combustion flash blowby igniting the crankcase mixture. This results in the motor making a terrific cough out the intake....

Re: Saturday 16th February 2013 Lake Arapuni, Waikato River.

The day turned out very warm at 26 deg plus created some sunburnt faces. A leisurely chug up & down the lake to visit both dams. Many nice beaches & places to stop for cups of tea & lunch. The south-western reaches of the lake are host to an acre of wild black-berrys, ripe for the pickin...

Re: Removing rust from water jacket

I'm re-starting my demo using a new sample. It was something of an oversight on my part that the crud in the prior sample was casting core material, & not rust, so wasn't a good choice for a valid demo This new sample uses a Century 100 block cut-away to show the hidden exhaust cooling gallery, ...

Re: Victa Jet Outboard Wanted in NZ

C-I
Lots of noise and no power.
True

But, probably one of the more practical Jet outboards, Compared to the Anzani jet or the Warren Jet.

Re: Removing rust from water jacket

Righto, I've heard enough yapping. Going to show you guys how it's done You get rusty bits cleaned up with chemical cleaning Complex shapes like engine blocks with hidden galleries are not a problem Does not remove any parent metal, so is safe to use on honed bores, unlike grit-blasting or acid dipp...

Re: Moving

C-I Well this move sure is a big undertaking. Moved myself some 9 years ago. A 4000 sq-ft combination of workshop & house. Near 12-18 ton of small stuff, plus vehicles & boats as well, established over 25 years Used shipping containers, 7 in total. Filled them up at my leisure & had them...

Re: Good Guys .

Chilli Sounds like a good project If you get a bronze prop cast, maybe ask about & see who else wants one. Cast a couple of extras to recover costs. Suggest the 102 two blade with lots of sweep, not the common bow-tie prop. These had a big pitch of about 12" (I think). There's a few origina...

Re: Victa Jet Outboard Wanted in NZ

Hi Keith Yes it's got the mower powerhead. I think 125cc was OEM, but they go better with the 160cc powerhead, so I hear Saw that one on Ebay. Looks like good value. They come up in Oz from time to time. They virtually never appear in NZ. Very annoying. Buggered if & can figure out how to...
