Re: A 40 Plus Mk2, my next project

The skelleton on the bench. This motor was taken apart two years back, I never got around to working on it again. Whats missing? Petrol tank, it is here but quite bashed one end, the carburetor, that is also here and I had made a note saying it has a needle for a 25;1 fuel mix. With the motor now on...

Re: Series 102 water cooling

Guys, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all those that responded to my questions, as without your replies and information, I would not have been able to complete the 102 engine and test it properly. That motor has been sold, so this thread can close for now? I have a second 102 engine but it is...

Re: Series 102 water cooling

Hout Bay, South Africa, where I live. That dinghy was ours for decades, it went cruising with us to St Helena and Ascension isles, then Brasil, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela and all the way back to Cape Town. We had a 40 series on it once, long story and an other voyage but that engine was swopped ...

A 40 Plus Mk2, my next project

I have just bead blasted the gear box and 40 plus propellor, next will be cleaning of the power head and fuel tank. The motor looks to be in good condition but refused to start last time I tried. I made a note, dated 17/11/2015 ................. Fires now and again Normal check, fuel, spark etc, no ...

Re: Series 102 Wheelie Bin support

With the excessive weight of a 102 series engine I was happier to mount the motor as I did, can also pull the start rope with my right hand and steady the motor with my left hand.

I can also see more with the motor facing outwards?

Re: Series 102 water cooling

The new motor support worked as I hoped, so did the cooling water !

As I had hoped it was the kinked hose that I found yesterday was the problem.

The flow may look a little thin in the pictures but it is a good solid run of water, the engine was on tickover.

Series 102 Wheelie Bin support

I have been testing the rebuilt 102 engine over the past while, its a heavy motor and the 16mm thick chipboard base with a 4x2 of pine glued to it showed signs on stress. I have now butched the assembly up and also fitted a lower cross strip to raise the height of the pine cross rail to make it vert...

Re: Series 102 water cooling

Right now I am test fitting the wheelie bin engine mounting.

What was a trial effort evolved as each running session arrived, basically the 102 motor was too heavy for the chipboard base I had.

It is now made a lot stronger and the board is fit for purpose.

Re: Series 102 water cooling

I have now repositioned the same rubber tube, it is new and in good condition, the copper pipe was also moved and towards the rubber tube.

Should hose clamps be fitted here, black cable ties may work ok and look neater?

Re: Series 102 water cooling

Can I assume that this is or should I say WAS the feed from the pump to the water cooling in the cylinder head?

Since fitting the rubber tube has collapsed, I think an air line will blow past the kink but the Seagulls water cooling pump will not?

Re: Series 102 water cooling

Charles , another test and with the rubber hose removed showed that no cooling water is coming from the black rubber transfer hose. A blow with a high pressure air line had lots of air bubbling out of the leg down in the water tank, so the feed line is clear, any ideas on what I need to next? The pu...

Re: Series 102 engine with a forty five blade prop

I do have a larger prop but it fouls the gear box casing.

It measures 11.25 inches.
