Re: Crankcases and Crankshafts

Aside from how the tiller is mounted to the cases there's no really big difference unless you include the crank bushes. Same bolt pattern for both engine types (round block and square) so cylinders and cases are interchangeable from either type which also means that cranks and rods etc. fit either t...

Re: Any big gulls in the US?

Andrew You might just be in luck here! I've been thinking of selling my silver century plus for a while now. This could be the perfect excuse for me to sell off some surplus. Would this be of interest to you? I can post some pictures a bit later if you like. :P 102 or century/silver century? I know ...

Re: Roys second 102 series build

Roy I have a good second hand gearbox all clean and complete and working with pump housing same as you're currently using with the 5 blade prop. Will need repainting though but its all there ready to go. Do you want it? No good to me whatsoever but just so you know this gearbox will work with your 1...

Re: Roys second 102 series build

So from the looks of things we're still going for the "bitsa" theme with this are we? The plus gearbox in your pics (correct me if i'm wrong) was normally fitted on square block century type seagulls wasn't it? Not for a 102 but i'm sure it will fit together with very little fuss. Bigger question is...

Re: Retirement Project

I wonder if the matchless is still looking as good as your 102?

Nice job that.

Re: Roys second 102 series build

Charles. You have to bear in mind that what Roy has done so far is quite remarkable considering all of the parts that you see assembled as a non pc looking 102 were donated. It just happens that he's got almost enough parts to build something up that resembles a seagull of sorts even if it does look...

Re: Roys second 102 series build

Decision time Roy As things stand now, this would be the type of prop you need for your 102 bitsa https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seagull-Outboard-Motor-Propeller-CPC-1409W/153368671513?hash=item23b57c3519:g:kMAAAOSwImRYjzjK Alternatively you could also revert back to a more conventional 102 gearbox and ...

Re: Roys third 102 series build

There again it might take very little time at all.

Interesting, this is often the way i get the first ideas of building a "bitsa". Start with the crankcases and see where it takes you.

Re: Roys second 102 series build

Grab it Roy. This would help you finish your project 102 for sure with spares left over for dare i say it another project for the future! There's the carb you're looking for along with the right thumb throttle and a fuel pipe. You never know you might be able to salvage the throttle cable too while ...

Re: Roys second 102 series build

Sorry dude, i'm all out of 46n 2jet carbs. Even my spare bits of carbs aren't up to much either. Just spares that's it. Just taken a load of junk seagull gearboxes and tubes etc to the tip last weekend. Nothing worth stripping for salvage as it really was terribly rusted. Most of it just scrap that ...

Re: Will a 102 series run with a smaller Villiers carb?

In this instance i think getting the right amount of air into the cylinder would be of more use rather than trying to get more fuel. Needles in carbs for the most part can be raised a little to allow more fuel to flow through the jet. A 46n 2jet carb doesn't have a needle before anyone comments. Com...

Re: Amal 420

What are the dimensions and taper of a 416 fuel needle? How many slots at the top for needle height adjustment? Total length etc. Any numbers that i might need to be aware of. If you can provide measurements of the 416 and 420 needle for comparison, i might have a spare needle. Seems like we're goin...

Re: Roys second 102 series build

Roy As and when you manage to get the correct carb for this you might find that when the motor is put into gear and run for a few minutes in the test bin it might smoke a bit more than it does right now. As the engine currently is right now when you've run it, it's basically not under very much load...

Re: Roys second 102 series build

Roy. This might run fairly well in a test bin with the engine in neutral. I keep my fingers crossed that it starts relatively easily and that the initial test run goes ok. Few more bits left to sort out first though from what i can see. Looks good though, i like it 8) Nothing wrong with your choice ...

Re: Amal 420

How much of a "bitsa" does fleetingcontact want to make? Certainly some good advice here from H-A and Charles. I'm more into the stock variants with very subtle tweaks. My advice would be to opt for the 416 purely because its the closest sized carb to the original 46n 2 jet with pretty much none or ...
