Re: SJP(L) / FPL Bitsa Journey

First Update FPL piston came out with a good knock on a wood block. Ports almost entirely solid rust, so plan was to use SJP cylinder which was in much better shape. SJP piston was properly seized however. Ended up finding some M18 x 1.5 brass grease nipples which fit the spark plug threads perfectl...

Re: Removal of dome nut

Thanks all for the suggestions! I ended up getting it off with brute force; was originally worried about cracking the flywheel in the vise but decided to really crank it in there and give it as much heat as I could. Plastic started to melt slightly around the washer but I had a couple old spares. Ha...

Re: Removal of dome nut

So I’ve got a dome nut, mark II ignition, that just doesn’t want to come off. Have tried most everything I can think of to keep the flywheel from turning while giving the spanner a good whack. Last try was getting flywheel in a tight bench vise (with wood blocks) and still no luck. Tried a small amo...

SJP(L) / FPL Bitsa Journey

Picked up these two very crusty, seized engines as a lot a couple months ago (SJP40964L & FPL1348DD4). Needed a fuel tap and line for a project FP, and got these two for about what those bits would cost on their own. So, requisite parts retrieved and the two old birds sitting around = time to start ...

Hard blow with a medium hammer

Needed coil from a donor FPL in poor shape, coil had a remarkably OK reading given how the rest of it looked. One strike and no movement so soaked it with penetrating oil for nearly a week. First strike on the nut today and the flywheel came off easier than any other I’ve seen. Or at least I thought...

170 Throttle Cable

realise these are few and far between, but on the off chance anyone has any new/used spares lying around I am looking for two ideally. Thought I'd try 1) asking around for spares before 2) asking someone to make/repair them before 3) actually being bothered to make/repair them myself :)

Thanks!

Re: Interesting motor

Have you checked the points? I had a forty plus just this weekend where everything checked out exactly as you say, odd missfires gave me hope but it just wouldn’t get started. Swapped out carb, spark plug, HT lead, new fuel, no luck. Double checked the points, off by 5-10 thou even though I had just...

Is anyone able to re-post the pictures or info discussed in this thread? I’m after the same info and seems the pics have disappeared. Thanks!

Re: Cylinder Head Stamp

Looks like the exact same font, which leads me to believe this was done at the factory.

Does anyone have an ENFR in similar date range that they can check? Interested to know if this was a one-off or something more common.

Thanks again!

Re: Cylinder Head Stamp

It looks like the same font to me but a bit hard to tell. I will try to clean up the head stamp and post another photo tonight.

Seller told me he was original owner and he didn’t seem like a tinkerer so I am wondering who stamped it and when if not at the factory.

Cylinder Head Stamp

I’ve not noticed it before, but had the tank off an EFNR earlier and the cylinder head was stamped with serial matching the motor. A quick search of the forum didn’t turn up anything, are there any posts on this?
