Re: Gear oil and two stroke

Seems a bit excessive renewing the contents of your gearbox every time. Perhaps Charles should have said CHECK your oil level after each use. It is important to check. I know gear oil is important, but even so, if after around 10 hours of usage you find your gearbox has leaked THAT much oil there m...

Re: Modifications - a good idea or not?

Here is what I did to my dinghy, I offset the motor and cut down the transom works a treat. I am able to run either short or long shaft motors.

Re: Roys second 102 series build

Well done nice Bitza you can keep an eye out for the original parts, Rob Ripley has been running one for years performs well and is very reliable. Would be interested to see how it performs on the water, all Seagulls smoke terribly in a test tank but on the back of a dinghy even at 10-1 there is har...

Re: LS33642

lucky for me and the motor as it was about to be thrown into a rubbish skip when it was saved, owners were moving house. Will check the coil when I pop the flywheel to clean the points, owner said it had only been used in fresh water.

Re: Cadmium plating metal parts

Been away playing with bikes beach Racing. I understand that Cadmium is toxic and we should not use it, what I am saying it is has a longer lasting finish. What I do not understand is because African Imp Cadmium plated his dive tube his gearbox will corrode, surely it would corrode the same rate if ...

Re: Fixing the 20 footer

Maybe this is more complicated than you were thinking of - someone is good at welding stainless - and I know its bigger than you need but the idea could be adapted. The result can be be adjusted to any height and it was made with a Seagull in mind. Home-Made.jpg The mount would work it looks like a...

Re: Cadmium plating metal parts

I wonder you never seem see it recommended for use in mixed metal areas, for a salt water environment? No idea, someone here will know I thought Cadmium would be more salt resistant than zinc. One of my old bikes has been on the road over 40 years she is looking tied now and needs a repaint and chr...

Re: Cadmium plating metal parts

Cadmium is my preferred choice on the older bikes most the platers do not touch it now, think the only one left
here is at the airport. Have done some white zinc plating at home with good results if the part hasn't been polished it
has that flat cad look.

Re: Fixing the 20 footer

Hi Nudge, I am about to cut the transom of my 22' Murray River boat to strengthen it so I could use modern (heavier) outboards (70's), the changed Transom will have a different height. The adjustable mount you use would mean I could still run a Seagull on the back, Could you post some photos of it l...

Re: A 40 Plus Mk2, my next project

John, don't worry the barrel is cactus and the crank and case are plentiful. All other parts went to refurbishing other motors ie box, carb and mag. Somebody else can run a motor on the back of a boat without oil if they so wish. Are you volunteering Charles? I cherish my working motors and don't l...
