Maiden voyage
Finally got my Silver Century long shaft out on the water! We had some hiccups as I learned throttle technique it likes when shifting, but once I got comfortable with that we were moving quite well. It was sitting a little low in the water on this boat, and we're at ~6000ft (1800m?) elevation, so I ...

Re: Amal carb banjo fiber washers
In the end, I decided to reuse the leather washers for now so I could at least try to run the motor in a bin in my back yard. She starts, idles, pumps a healthy stream of cooling water, shifts between neutral and forward, and revs just fine: [YouTube] https://youtube.com/shorts/WE3wRz8o_Qw?feature=s...

Re: Amal carb banjo fiber washers
@Oyster, agreed - one of my biggest concerns with copper crush washers is that might require too much torque, and the carb body would strip out before a seal was achieved. @andrew, I know that my local hardware shop has some composite washers, some nylon, some fuel-resistant O-rings... I'll sift thr...

Re: Amal carb banjo fiber washers
That's helpful to know about the O-rings squishing out, Andrew. Thanks. I'd happily order new washers from John, and probably should have included them in my last order from him. Unfortunately, I'm in the USA and our Customs agency is slowing imports down pretty badly right now. I was hoping to fire...

Amal carb banjo fiber washers
My Silver Century Plus (WSPCL....) came to me with what looks, for all the world, like bits of leather sandwiched between wax paper to serve as the washers on the banjo fitting between the float bowl and the Amal twin-jet carburetor. Is this the original "fiber washer" or some resourceful ...

Re: 4- vs 5-bladed prop on Silver Century
I believe the prop that came with the motor is indeed the "weedless" option, as it has the "CLW" casting mark in the spring notch. I received the (rather rough) eBay 5-bladed hydrofan prop yesterday, so I was able to perform a direct comparison. There's a photo of the casting mar...

Re: 4- vs 5-bladed prop on Silver Century
Thanks, John. If I understand correctly, there's a chance this is the original "semi-weedless" option offered on the Silver Century Plus. But if that's not the case, then it's the incorrect prop for the motor - and even if it is "correct" it may not be desirable over the standard...

Re: 4- vs 5-bladed prop on Silver Century
(And to clarify, I understand that a larger prop should produce more thrust at a given RPM. I'm trying to figure out what the previous owner intended by making this modification, or whether the motor has simply been cobbled together with spares he had lying around.)

4- vs 5-bladed prop on Silver Century
Hi, all. I recently picked up my first Seagull, a Silver Century Plus long shaft (WSPCL...) from 1977. It was sold to me with a 4-bladed prop that appears to be 9" diameter, which I think was original to a 40 Plus, but I understand the SCP motors came with the 5-blade, 11" prop. (Is this r...
