102 Plus Long Shaft Wanted in Ireland

Happy New Year to everyone. At the end of last year my better half persuaded me to part with my collection of outboards. They ranged from a 1969 Chrysler 9.9 to an 80s Yamaha 8 and included two seagulls and a box of spares from several other seagulls. They all (6 in total) went to the Malahide Sea S...

Re: Stalling when put in gear

Well, before I took the plunge and stripped the gearbox again, I did a quick run through. I have modified this engine to be 9” longer than standard. It is now 38” (965mm) from the transom to the skeg. This gives me clear water to the prop and keeps the intake under water if I move forward in the boa...

Stalling when put in gear

Basically it runs fine with no prop, in gear and out. I put the prop on and it just stalls. The prop is the kind with the internal spring. I would normally say it is fuel starvation, but the carb has just been cleaned and is fine. Plenty of fuel getting there, and the breather on the tank is open! I...

Re: Amal 416 carb issue

All sorted now. I shortened the outer cable. I deciddd to do this with the inner in place as opposed to melting and resoldering the blob. Tricky but successful.
Now it just stalls when going into gear.
I will start another post.

Re: Amal 416 carb issue

Thank you for the details. For some reason my cable seems to be short. I make it just under 75mm from the ferrule to the tip.
I will order a new cable!

Amal 416 carb issue

Feeling confused. I replaced the throttle cable on my EFNR gull and something isn’t right! The carb is an Amal 416 and it won’t close properly when the cable is attached to the thumb lever. It closes perfectly when it is not connected so I have ruled out friction or obstruction in the carb / jet its...

Re: EFNR564FF9 Gearbox Pinion Gear Removal

Having removed the unit I feel I should strip it into its constituent parts.
However, I fear this may destroy it and, well, what’s the point.
I also feel it has probably been damaged in the process, so what is to lose?
Has anyone done this before? Any tips?

Re: EFNR564FF9 Gearbox Pinion Gear Removal

Thank you all for your input.

I have managed to remove the unit and sleeve. I have no idea if it is reusable, but i expect i will need a new one.

I will try and remove the sleeve etc, so thank you for the exploded diagram.

EFNR564FF9 Gearbox Pinion Gear Removal

Help please! How do I remove this drive pinion? I have removed the thick washer and oil seal from the top. I have removed the locating screw from the leg. I have heated it up and I have bashed the pinion up the leg, which I am sure is the correct direction. Nothing is moving. The arrow in the pic is...

Re: Modifications - a good idea or not?

Well, I have eventually got around to getting the extention sorted. I have discovered that the exhaust port is bulging and there is a crack in the block. It is also very corroded and full of rust. Add to that the fact that I broke two head bolts means that this block is free to a good home! So I hav...

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

I am also restoring an old seagull EFNR564FF9. When I say restoring, I am not going to the detail and precision that you guys do. Hopefully no one will look at what I do and shake their head too much! But I have taken the route of "I need an outboard for my boat, a seagull would suit it". ...

Wanted: Cylinder block for 90 series

It looks like the engine was left full of water and then froze. The exhaust port is cracked and burst. It was running and this only came to light when the exhaust tube was removed.

Engine serial number EFNR 564FF9 90 series.

Thank you.
