AMAL 2 Jet Carb- Threads

Can anyone tell me the size/thread pitch for the two jets inside the AMAL 2 Jet Carby? I have a body that I would like to use, but the threads in the hole for one of the jets (the smaller of the two jets) is a bit chewed up, so I'd like to run a tap/thread chaser through it to clean it up. The threa...

W525A0 Lives!!!!

While I've been working on one of my other Seagulls - fighting to get all the corroded components apart, I've also been working on W525A0 - A Silver Century built in January 1970. I haven't tried to strip this one because it looked in much better condition, so I thought I might just try and massage ...

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

I might just take you up on that very kind offer Hugz.

I'm out bush working at the moment, and won't be back to the Big Smoke for a few weeks, but when I do get back, I'm only about 20 minutes from you.

I reckon you can get the Locating Pins from John at SOS. so that won't be a drama.

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

Believe it or not, I am still struggling with this thing - I just can't get the base plate retaining screw out. I have done all the things listed above. I have now smuggled the engine back to Sydney on a commercial flight. i soaked it in diesel for 2 weeks. I have welded a nut to the end of the scre...

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

Well all I have managed to do since my last post was break half the head off the Base Plate Retaining screw. Now that I have the coil off I gut really stuck in with the heat and then went at it with a hand impact screwdriver - no luck - just distorted the screw head. Then more head and a good pair o...

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

Success!!!! The Loctite Red worked a real treat! P1190034.JPG P1190035.JPG P1190036.JPG So I locked the nut onto the stud with Loctite Red and gave it a few days to really harden - went down there this afternoon and tried to back off the nut. Sure enough - the nut was locked to the stud and the stud...

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

Loctite Blue - Fail!! It just stripped off the Loctite as I turned the nut - the stud stayed firmly attached. I am now trying again with Loctite Red - Loctite claim the only way to release this stuff is with heat - so let's see how it goes on this. If that fails - I am just going to JB Weld the Net ...

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

Actually these both sound like great ideas. As you know - I am away from home working out in the Australian Bush for a couple of weeks so I'm away from my ultrasonic cleaner (and almost all of my tools/shed/etc),so that's off the table for the moment. While I'm out here - I will carefully try to bre...

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

Nut is now Loctite-ed to the stud.

So I'll give it a couple of days to really cure and get stuck into it - mind you - it was 48C degrees here today so it's probably dried already - it was like living in an oven!!

I'll let you know how it goes :)

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

Yea - I use JB Weld quite a lot, and it was the first thing I thought of for this, but once that nut is JB Welded to the stud - it ain't coming off again,so I thought I'd give it a go with Super Bond Lok-Tight first. If it works and I get the stud out - happy days - and then I can apply heat to the ...

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

Success!!!! Sort of :| Thanks so much for all your thoughts nd suggestions - I've had a good read of them all and tried to absorb your advice and had another go at it, with minor success - but each step is a small victory. I have now managed to remove one of the coil retaining studs. Re my initial q...

Putting up a real fight!!!

G'day Guys, Currently restoring LS27327L (which doesn't appear to be a long shaft any more.....and its fighting me every inch of the way  I'm slowly getting there, but I'm currently a bit stuck. This is my first Seagull Restoration so I've got a couple of questions that you guys might be able ...
