Saving Old Seagulls

Just joined the forum.. bought a 40+ long shaft for my tender to get out to the rib at Itchenor ... what a great bit of kit.... the down tube that covers the drive shaft is a bit corroded... I contacted the Seagull site and they wanted 50quid for a new one.... is it just a straight tube... could a b...
