Re: Increasing hp on a featherweight?
Well all I want from my featherweight is the short shaft, and the recoil start. I should be picking up another seagull but I'm not sure which It is yet, just know it's a long shaft. Just wondering really what kind of hybrid I could come up with for a bit more speed. Should also be able to get some b...

Did I read that a century gear box with a prop from a forty plus be an upgrade?

Re: Draining the mayo out the gearbox
I don't think you are able to fit a seal any more, I would fix the end float as that seems to be what the problem was and see if its usable, thicken up the oil if need be. To be honest I have never had one apart, Its a little modern for me. Why don't you think I could use a seal now? Also I don't k...

Re: Draining the mayo out the gearbox
Ok I got the bush off, and that tiny slither of rubber is the grommet, also there is some serious roughness behind it, kind of looks to me like an edge has broken away, or is it bad casting?

Increasing hp on a featherweight?
Any good ways to do this?
A friend of mine has a forty plus which I might be able to get, it has a few problems but I think on the whole its ok? Are any parts interchangeable with mine to give mine more power?
Or are there any other ways to up my speed? Props... Gear boxes.... Changing the engine???

Re: Draining the mayo out the gearbox
I've never had It on a boat, its new to me. Well the rubber one seems very thin and worn, if I can get the bush off and the shaft out could I pack it with any old grommets to hold It back? To remove the bush is there just a pin through it that needs punching out? Thank you so much for your help so f...

Re: Draining the mayo out the gearbox
Well if I push the prop and turn it, it can actually miss the cogs and turn freely if that makes sense? When I had it open the rubber washer looked a bit past it, should they be fairly thick? I'm thinking if it was thicker it would hold the gears better. Also this is a 89 fort featherweight, would i...
