Genius design
I'll bet no-ones ever had one of those screws come out while underway. The corrosion effectively creates a lock nut.

Re: Boat handling without neutral or reverse
So it sounds like Paddle it is. Coming ashore is not a major issue for me as I'm going to fit a kill cord. While I realise the risk is low, there is a mental message to get across to the wee man who will be with me that OBs need KCs as he will also be learning to drive a 40-50HP in a couple of years...

Boat handling without neutral or reverse
Sorry this may not strictly be a 'Seagull' issue its probably my lack of boat skills thats the issue! I've only ever used powerboats with clutches and reverse gears so last week when I was sea-trialling the new seagull I seemed to struggle with my "departure" technique... So wondering what...

Starting in Reverse?
So I'm sat at my Dad's house commenting that the new tpoy doesn't have reverse and that in the wrong wind/tide conditions that makes starting at a slipway and leaving without fouling the propellor. He's a mechanic knows some stuff about engines... ...he says if I coil the rope the other way on the s...

So when I get the broken HT Lead Sorted - what more can I do to sort the water issue? How long can I run it without the water pumping?

Re: Restoring a 40 Plus
Washer thickness should not be that critical, replacements are available. Thanks. Mine look too thin so I will get some fatter ones. Rust on drive leg, only real cure is replating, but that creates other issues, If you are happy with a painted leg paint it, or look for a good replacement which can ...

Restoring a 40 Plus
I've just obtained a 1973 Forty Plus Short Shaft from ebay. It needs a bit of a fettle but I've had it running with about 3 hours of work. I'm blogging the fettling here: http://soggysailor.blogger.com . Couple of questions have cropped up: Leaking fibre washer on the fuel intake to the carburettor ...
