Re: What is the correct propellor for Silver Century Plus?

I think the hydrofan is a good bet too! I tried a four bladed one like yours on a century, pushing a six metre rib ,albeit a rib is hard to push until up on the plane. I was getting three and a half knots in non tidal water ,but the motor wasn't getting to maximum revs I thought,so a hydrofan could ...

Re: Simoniz Tough Black gloss

Does it say it's petrol resistant ? If not ,I wouldn't use it if petrol is likely to make contact with it !

Re: In The Tank

If the test tank is big enough, why not run it with the prop on? I like to do so ,as running the motor under load is a good thing , unless it's going to be an orniment or show piece . If removing the spring , you might as well go the whole way and remove the prop too for the extra few seconds it's g...

Re: Marston OA gearbox

Thanks Rene , AJ and Charles for your advice and help, It's really appreciated . The issue I have is that the prop shaft has forward and backwards lateral movement! Not a lot at all ,but enough for the gears to just catch each other. If I push on the face of the rotor while turning the drive shaft w...

Re: Marston OA gearbox

I will post a photo , but it won't really show you much ,because I can't see how the thing comes apart
Is the rotor a left or right handed thread ? I see you have yours removed ,so now I have an inking as to what is behind the rotor !
What tool did you use to remove it ?

Marston OA gearbox

I'm currently working on/restoring my OA ! I'm struggling with taking apart the gearing from the gear case. I have the lower unit removed , and while turning the drive shaft ,the prop shaft wants to pull forward and come away from the pinion gear! It seems to me that there should be a thrust washer ...

That gear shift looks like something from a 360 degree excavator or a harbour crane

That sounds like a really good idea Keith, I will definitely adopt that idea on the inevitable next seized motor.

Re: Success rate in freeing seized motors

With all the motors i tried freeing..All were TDC so couldn't get to the back of the piston. I soaked the piston crown with plus gas with the head off after trying the deisel/oil and even the plus gas wouldnt drop down the side of the piston. The grease nipple on a bung sounds interesting though.. W...
