Re: new project and a Villiers carb question

That was awesome Keith!
I have the carb. down to," a pile of pieces just by removing this or that and see what falls off!
So, the pin is just pressed in. Like this entire engine, it's the easiest way to do things!
(I THOUGHT so, but was afraid to yank on it, afraid I'd break it off).
Tanks!

new project and a Villiers carb question

I sure as a hole in my hull didn't need another S.G.! But how can I refuse it when it came with a just about useless rusted motor stand! This motor looks like it's had a hard, abused life and tossed in a shed, just my style!! This is a July '68 Plus 40 with a Villiers carb. I have it all apart, (wel...

Re: Why do I do this?

This would have been my 6th? Sea Gull in the past 2 years. (when I get an addiction, I go FULL bore)! One, the former owner bought back after he heard I got it running, (was odd, I made a profit??? on that sale)! Do to "Spouse Pressure" I sold my 2 Centuries I had "brought bac...

Re: Why do I do this?

Why, yes, I have a LOT of Irish genes in me, as well as a LOT of German genes. Heaven will be fixing these, Hell will be, "Sorry those parts are no longer available"! I've been a "bad boy" most of my life, so I figure I should get as many fixed as I could now, cuz later, I won't ...

Re: Why do I do this?

Tanks! Run a mile? With my knee replacement, I can "gimp" a mile..... Does that count? One of the MAJOR problems I have is a I buy a parts ****** (insert your favorite noun here), and I end up fixing THAT up instead of stripping it down for parts. Although now that I seem to be "...

Why do I do this?

Here in the U.S. we have a site called, "Craigslist". It's a site for selling almost anything, job hunting, etc. I surf it most mornings while drinking coffee, just to see what's for sale- I'm always on the hunt for; jeeps, boats, outboards, motorcycles, (not that I NEED anymore, but hey i...

Re: Well here it is!

yikes ! Those stitches beat me hands down! :P Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it. Not too many B.S.G., @ here, so I HAVE to make it look good to up hold brand!! The P.O. stated it wasn't run for a LONG time, but did when way back when. Cleaned carb, new fuel line (ahhh, pipe?), new plug wiped out tank w...

Well here it is!

I've been on "Light Duty" here at work, (can't lift more than 10#, waiting on hernia surgery), so I've had time to; 1. Clean my desk up and drawers 2. straighten my tool box 3. Walk @ A-LOT! So I came up with the idea.... "I'll bring the Sea Gull in and paint it up nicey, nice&q...

Re: Plus 40 with a clutch- how does this work?

After searching @ on line and finding a dog clutch on E bay and later my parts book arriving I see how simple it is! This is what I LOVE about B.SG.! No spinning clutch assy., no springs, levers tinnie, tiny pieces to fly off and land under the bench in the mass of old metal savings and grease to be...

Plus 40 with a clutch- how does this work?

The motor is there and I'm STUCK here at wirk, (for some reason they frown onm me working on my boats HERE at work!? I'm here..... isn't THAT enough)? 8) I got it the yesterday, delivered from E Bay. I pressure washed it, made a list of parts that look "iffy" and ordered. Quick look at the...

Re: The Addiction Continues!

Tanks! I have long sense given up trying to resist these types of things! I figure my credit cards need a good working out each month! What stopped my multiple bikes and Jeeps was the cost of the license plates and the insurance! I haven't even started the motor yet, (First thing I did after un-boxi...

The Addiction Continues!

I can see this being like me and Jeeps, old bikes, pitiful sailboats! I HAD 2 Centuries at the beginning of last spring as a trolling motor (I figured if 1 is good, 2 must be better, keeping one for a spare)! The ran great, re rung one "just to see what's inside". The problem I h...

2 Century for sale

I tried to make these Sea Gulls work on my fishing boat, but, in reality I need a short shaft motor. So, that being said, I'm gonna try to sell these and see if I can pick up a short shaft S.G.. First one is a 1969 Century 4.0 HP long shaft motor. Villers carb. Cleaned carb, re set points, added a b...

Getting the motor out of the water, HELP!!

So this is where I'm at........... '91 Grumman 19' SF fishing boat, 70 H.P. 'Rude O.B. I installed a new transom mount for my '69 Century long shaft 4.0 HP. With the new mount, I can EASILY raise and lower the motor, (the last mount was a P.O.S.)! (total raise is 13 1/2" most "throw" ...

Re: Silver Century project, shipload of questions

Tanks! The gear box swap is an idea in the back of my head that is growing. Sure would be nice to be able to pull into the dock and hit N or R though. I don't know enough about these outboards to start to "tinker and modify" "IT" (yet). I would never cut the 10:1 mix down! I had ...
