Re: Driveshafts...
The drive shaft was cyanide hardened at both ends to prevent twisting & locking in place happening. Though British Seagull or John might be able to lay their hands on a longer one that you could cut to size, if the ends of the one you find have been hardened, you'll have to cut with an angle gr...

Re: clutched gearbox and stuff for 40+
I chose for the larger transom because it was a nice one all in bronze and because I also have 102 that I can hang on it. The propeller sits well below the keel as you can see on the older photo http://iloapp.shearwater.nl/data/_gallery/public/14/140283421015473300_resized.jpg Maybe I will adjust th...

Re: clutched gearbox and stuff for 40+
No, haven't tried it yet. There is a little bit of work to be done before it can run.
It is exactly the type of motor that I like at the back of my clinker ply dinghy

Re: clutched gearbox and stuff for 40+
An update on my clutch project. I managed to get all the things need for a conversion and assembled the lot. I actually haven't run it yet but everything seems to work well. Her a few pics. http://iloapp.shearwater.nl/data/_gallery/public/14/145226419381477200_resized.jpg http://iloapp.shearwater.nl...

Re: Removing waterpump housing bolt 40+
What is actually best: heating the aluminium of the gearbox around the bolt of the bolt itself by applying heat to the head of the bolt and by conduction the threaded part bolt itself? I would say heating up the aluminium casting would be more effective because the aluminium expands more than steel ...

Re: Removing waterpump housing bolt 40+
Thanks, these are clear instructions. I ordered few new bits and will try once more the impact driver after another good heating. If that still doesn't work I will follow the directions given.

Removing waterpump housing bolt 40+
I'm trying to remove the gearbox from a 40+ . The outer bolt on top of the waterpump was easy to unscrew, but the one between the drive shaft casing and the exhaust refuses to cooperate. I tried it with heating the gearbox where the thread is several times, loads of WD40, hitting it with an impact s...

Re: clutched gearbox and stuff for 40+
I thought that the clutched gearbox of the Century and the 40 plus had the same gearboxes and have ratio of 1:3.5. Such as this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/British-Seagull-Outboard-Clutched-Gearbox-For-Century-or-Forty-Plus-40-Or-100/321869525660?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3...

clutched gearbox and stuff for 40+
I want to convert my SJP long shaft to a clutched version of it. Maintaining the original Seagull looks, but with a little bit more convenience. I understand that it is mainly a matter of replacing the gearbox assembly. So I'm in need of : - gearbox 1:3.5 of the clutched type in good condition. - wa...

Opening a 102 gearbox
I'm still working on the restauration of my 102. Now I'm facing a dilemma. I can't get the end cap off. I would like to see if everything is ok inside. I tried a bit of hammering on the prop shaft but that doesn't work. Peeking through the oil filling hole shows no problems, everything is running sm...
