Re: stuck flywheel

All wonderful informational posts. But, I like pictures to go with the text. Can anyone show me how the "coolie hat flywheel remover" actually works? Is there any tool other than a hammer which can help remove Mark 1 Villiers flywheel? And if so, can you show me how it works? I am reluctan...

Re: high tension lead or...?

How does "lump" hammer translate into American version of our shared (?) language. I have a copper one used years ago on wing nuts on MG midget spoked wheels back in the day. Why steel? Have steel nut but thread doesn't work well. Both nuts from Gulls. I am calling my bodgered version a &q...

stuck flywheel

Hoping to work on Villiers coil in Mark 1 ignition but cannot remove flywheel. Tried prescribed way- one person holding flywheel, another striking dome nut. Perhaps someone over torqued flywheel nut at one time, tightening flywheel on crankshaft taper too much. Will heat on flywheel help loosen it? ...

Re: high tension lead or...?

My problem is how to remove flywheel that is stuck tight. I know someone should hold flywheel while another whacks craknshaft nut. Tried, but nothing gives. Afraid of harming crankshaft, etc. Could heating flywheel help? Also have a ruined crankcase and crankshaft assembly with breakerless CD igniti...

Re: high tension lead or...?

Thanks!

And then soldering? Is this fussy? What size wires involved- small?

Pics would help.

Nudge

Removed head. Used permagasket, refit head, torqued to specs. Started first pull. Ran in barrel for 15 minutes with gears engaged, no recurrence of problem. But a bit worried that original problem might have also involved coil.

Nudge:

Many thanks for response.

Just pulled head. No signs of crack. Might it be head gasket? When I put head back on, what should I torque bolts? Should I use gasket cement?

cracked block? CPC

Running mongrelized CPCL with short haft, Amal 416 carb, etc. On a barrel test after number of minutes at moderate throttle, I noted cooling water coming out of block was getting hot. Eventually got hotter than I could comfortably hold my hand in. When I shut down motor, the exhaust tube and block w...

Re: barrel sailng

Keith, many thanks for your help through my last few posts. Did a test run, with water as deep as you suggested. After number of minutes at moderate throttle, I noted cooling water coming out of block was getting hot. Eventually got hotter than I could comfortably hold my hand in. I shut down motor ...

what's the point

Got my gull flying again. Keith P advised setting points to .015 instead of .020. Gull now re-feathered and soaring beautifully. Now onto barrel sailing. In the spirit of the big ugly American where we usually think if some is good, then a lot is even better, is there a minimum to which points shoul...

barrel sailng

Am about to begin some barrel sailing. Have my Gull set up in barrel of water for final tuning before mounting on boat. Are there any special precautions in running motor in barrel? How full can barrel be (how much over exhaust outlet); run with gears engaged? Full throttle? If so for how long, etc....
