Finally got to watch Father Goose (thanks to netflix streaming). I enjoyed seeing Archie Leach towing a sinking 40+foot wooden launch with an 8' dink powered by a silver century.

Re: Serial Number Identifier

Received this email from John yesterday after I emailed him about the discrepancies in the S/N Identifier: Hello Bob, Sorry for delay, just back from holiday... thanks for pointing this one out, the AF was an odd one that may well have slipped the net, and electronic ignition model without the 'E' p...

Re: Serial Number Identifier

I entered G4 because that's what it says on the motor. Obviously the coding system broke down in the 90s.

Didn't work for later models

My 1984 AFPCL##H4 (Model 55) and AF###C4 (Model 45) showed up as 1964 "Manufacture Date" using 10:1 mix. Likewise my 1994 KLR##G4 (Seagull 6, aka Kingfisher) showed up as a 1984 model.

Thank you

Thanks for the reply, Charles. Interesting mix of parts from different eras. By the way, I was filling out a crossword puzzle the other day and, being a statesider, it took me a minute or two to come up with a 5-letter word for "Bay on the English Channel", 3rd letter "o", 5th le...

Bolt on bracket for 40/40+ with odd thrust block

Any ideas as to the origin of the thrust block on this bracket? It doesn't seem to match the thrust block in the spares book.

Deep Water

I finally got a chance to rent/watch the DVD "Deep Water" about Donald Crowhurst and the 1968 Golden Globe solo circumnavigation race. I recommend the film highly. During footage of Crowhurst being shuttled out to his trimaran at the start of his ill-fated voyage from Teignmouth I heard th...

Not the right tank

Vic wrote:

Not got the right fuel tank. Feet face the wrong way
Looks like there are 4 feet so the tank could face either way. Did BS make 4 footed tanks so the same tank could be fitted to a 40 or 100? Or were the second pair of feet added on to this particular tank at some point?

Looking for this - Seagull part # IGN 03 006?

On Ebay part listing # 220100509649

Listing says it's from a 1978 Forty, but according to the spares manual this flywheel cover fits all the Wipac IIIs including the EFNR. Looking at the other parts the seller has for sale, it appears he broke down an EFPC.

Chevron RPM Gear Oil

Don't know if this is available up your way, the straight mineral oil stuff, GL-1, no additives. I can get it locally from an oil distributor for about $60 USD/5 gallon pail (minimum order). Maybe you can ask a local oil distributor or someone else who deals in Chevron oil products to look up the P/...

ISO 460

You can also look for gear oils that are ISO 460 which is the equivalent of SAE 140 under the newer viscosity rating scale. Grainger carries it, at least in their online catalog: Mobil 634 which does have EP additives but 1B copper corrosion test results. I don't know if you have a store up there in...

NAPA

Try NAPA, ask them to order Stalube SAE 140 gear oil (SL24238). This link is the the manufacturer's product info: http://www.crcindustries.com/ei/content/prod_detail.aspx?PN=SL24238&S=N . Get a gallon while you're at it. It does have some additives, but I asked them to do a copper corrosion test...
