epoxy temp
My apologies if this is way too off forum content but guessed since building a boat is a fairly common topic in this sub forum , I thought I'd ask. I'm thinking of giving build my own a shot. Don't want to get into "what I should build". I'm leaning toward a stitch-n-glue lapstrake build. ...

Re: fish farm in our loch
Sorry to hear that. That silliness over here started in BC, Canada and has since spread to the US and Alaska. Kinda like an out of control corporate brush fire and no rain in sight. I used to be a commercial salmon fisherman in AK and have no advice how to stop farming other than buying direct from ...

Re: Tank cleaning
For carbs I'm a believer in the soak method. I've had some luck with spray carb cleaners for minor deposits but for a total rebuild I soak. A good cleaner is ChemDip or similar from an auto parts store. Comes in a gallon can with a basket. It's expensive but if the can is sealed well to avoid evapor...

Re: std-vs-long shaft swap
Thanks for the reply David. I was thinking and hoping it's doable but thought I'd ask first before tearing stuff apart. I agree about inflatables too and have no issues with quality ones. I'm retired boat trash. Licensed oceans master with 30 years on 175-300ft work boats and very used to Zodiaks in...

std-vs-long shaft swap
I've have a featherweight(short) and a 40+(long) and will be buying a boat soon. Likely a blow up boat. Yeah yuk but for my needs a better option. In any case it'll require a short shaft. I'm sure my featherweight would work fine but I like the extra poop of the 40+. I'm not big on adding a taller t...

What's in a name?
Hi all. My little brain is getting a headache sorting out model names. What I've got is a 1971 Featherweight reg shaft and a 76 Forty plus long shaft. External both look the same except the 40+ longshaft is obviously taller. I've got an original page from a factory brochure that gives some basic spe...

Re: Corrosive gear oil...
I don't know zip about these outboards but yeah hypoid lube can be hard on yellow metal in a high temp enviroment which is a concern in car/truck transmissions with brass synchro rings etc but they operate at a LOT higher temps than the water logged gear box in a seagull. As H-A said the seawater is...

Re: ROTOMOULDED POLYETHLENE BOATS...ANY FEEDBACK ?
Well went to Morton boats in Lincoln and bought a 3.7m boat as below. Reasons... the wife liked it No need to stitch and glue in cold britian. Boat will have re sale value Boat can be kept outside in winter. A stitch and glue strong enough to be crushed against the lock walls by a 25 tonne canal bo...

Are the 40 featherweights and 40 minus different in any major ways or was just a marketing re-naming change?

Re: 11ft clinker build dingy
Old fishermen would just moor the boat in salt water, let it fill with water, leave it for 2 weeks, then bail it out & use it. Gotta agree with Charles. That type of construction was meant to be wet. Go sink it in salt water for awhile till it swells up. If ya wanna fiberglass or epoxy smear a ...

Noob say'n hey!
Hi all, yup I'm new here and new to seagulls too. I'm a medically retired boat cap'n that's been on land too long. I got to play with a Brit seagull back when I lived in Alaska. Was impressed with the simplicity and reliability. Now on the beach in Western Washington state I'm missing being on the w...
