Plus 40

This engine is in excellent condition - not perfect but really excellent. It can be taken apart completely with no worries about anything stopping you in the way of corroded nuts & bolts. I ran it on my rubber duck for about 4 hours (last year or the year before, I can't remember now). FP I826G0...

Re: What's happened to my drive

To be honest the photo makes it look worse than it actually is.

I will try to heat the bolt tomorrow and see if I can shift it. I will keep the forum posted.

Thanks for all the help.

Re: What's happened to my drive

To drain the oil you removed the plastic plug with the cross slotted head ? Yes? Yes The end cap is the domed front cover which the above is screwed into. It is held to the gearbox housing by two screws. Ok - please see photos and comments below. The crown wheel is the toothed gear wheel inside the...

Re: What's happened to my drive

If, after putting everything back together, it's the prop that you are spinning by hand, check the placement of the drive spring. It's the prop's only connection to the prop shaft. If you're turning the prop shaft itself (your first picture, #...328) with no sensation of engagement, then you'll hav...

Re: What's happened to my drive

I only removed the filler cap, on one side, and the bits which you can see in the photos on the other side. I have no special tools, and I'm not sure what an end cap is (but I can guess).

What's happened to my drive

I've got no drive to my prop! All I did was remove the prop for inspection - see photo: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f220/MrBlobman/0042.jpg?t=1297427328 I emptied the old oil from the gearbox and replaced it with new oil. And now prop shaft doesn't engage. I can spin it by hand. What do I need...

Re: Yamalube SAE90 Outboard Gear Oil

OK looks like I have a bit of work to do. Thanks for all the help, Charles. For anyone who is interested in the cheap EP 140, I reckon that most of you will probably know about it - but here's the link on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Smith-Allan-EP-140-Gear-Oil-API-GL4-1-ltr-/370442866135?pt=UK_CarsP...

Re: Yamalube SAE90 Outboard Gear Oil

I'm still confused - this site also says that SAE 90 can be used for my gearbox: http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/i_d_your_seagull/i_d_letters.htm If we assume that my EGF441JJ1 has all its original parts, please could someone take a look at the photos below and tell me the following; 1. Is it a...

Re: Yamalube SAE90 Outboard Gear Oil

This site says use SAE or EP 140 but other sites say use SAE 90.

So who's right? Apologies for my ignorance but I'm very new to Seagulls.
