Re: Thank you George at Villiers

Andrew,

Here are the prices. Postage is extra.

new coil £65 (baseplate also cleaned up completely and new wire to points)
points £12.00 (if needed )
ign lead £9.95 (if needed)

My coil was totally shot. I should be good for another half century.

Thank you George at Villiers

My old coil on my ‘58-59 102 went south and George at www.villiersparts.co.uk did a great job refurbishing it. It now looks like new. Service was quick and reasonably priced.

Highly recommended.

Re: Seagull 102

I got this from a guy who had installed a completely unrelated carburetor. After doing some research, I discovered that it arrived with L&L Manufacturing S1 carb, originally supplied to Harley Davidson for their Hummer early ‘50s vintage bike. It turned out that some Harley fans were very intere...

Here is what it looks like. What is the best way to safely remove some corrosion found on the magneto base plat and the flywheel?

Seagull 102

Hi… i have a Seagull 102 (manufactured ~ 1958-59, Silver flywheel, Serial number: TC62513) which came with the wrong carburetor. I don’t have 102 parts manual and I need to get the right carb, cable & fittings, and washer that goes under the dome nut. My original Villiers coil is toast and I am ...

Re: L&L Manufacturing S1 carb on 102

Thanks to all.

I have a serviceable Amal that I will be installing as soon as I can verify that my coil is good. (Stranger things have happened...I can only hope.)

L&L Manufacturing S1 carb on 102

I recently got an 1958-59 102 which was fitted with what looked to be a Villers carb. However, on closer inspection, I discovered it was a very similar looking carb made by L&L Manufacturing of Indianapolis, IN. In fact is an L&L S-1 carb which as fitted on Harley Hummers of the same vintage...

Re: 40FW Fuel tank stud needed

H-A....I may end up doing that. I am going to explore the possibility of finding a double threaded 5/16 BSF 1.5” stud. That appears to be what Seagull put in these old steel tanks and I hope to keep it original. Failing that, welding a 5/16 BSF bolt may be my only hope. I hope that it is not a BWS s...

40FW Fuel tank stud needed

Hi, I am missing one of the two studs which are screwed in to the bottom of the fuel tank. The other ends pass through the two holes in the cylinder head to and fastens with a nut to secure the tank. I am pretty sure the stud shaft is 5/16” I am not sure if it’s a BSW thread or not. I presume it is ...

Re: Skin on frame ?

It seems that one of these might have some potential for a Seagull powered launch with a bit of modification.

Re: Do head Bolts require a sealant?

Paul:

The Classic Seagull Book by Meyers recommends using a mixture of waterproof grease and anti-seize lubricant (FWIW, I use NAPA's copper anti-seize) on the cylinder head bolts.

One more question on multi-grade oil...

Since its now cold, the lakes will be icing up soon, maybe this weekend, and the water temp is cold, 32- 40F ( 0- 5C), would it make sense to use a multi-grade like 85W90? The manual suggests going from 140 SAE to 90 SAE or even "an engine oil in freezing conditions." Are there any engine ...
