The 'Eventiders' site is new. It is a new owners group that I and a group of dedicated owners have set up. Until 2002, I was the Secretary of the then Eventide Owners Association, and had been for some years. However in January 2003, they decided to be a 'non owners' assoc, so we formed our own group. You will also find reference to this on my personal page. The old association included all the designs, mostly home built, that have been sponsored by the Yachting Monthly magazine over the years. The designer of four of the most popular is Maurice Griffiths G.M., A.R.I.N.A., and with whom I was fortunate to have a friendship during his latter years.
They sold the plans for his and the other designers that were sponsored by Y.M. There is a sailing dinghy of 13 feet and cruisers from 16 to 31 feet. All for home build. Some details of these will be found on the new site. As a group, we will be trying to cater for builders and sailors of all these designs, using the knowledge we have acquired during the past 30 years of building and sailing and developing the designs.
We believe the eoa no longer exists, we are not surprised, after all most of their officers sold their Y.M. boats and opted for other boats, nothing remotely to do with Y.M. designs, some of the committee had no boats at all! Many of the owners felt this was wrong and tried to pull the assoc back, but were defeated at the AGM by the non Y.M. boat owners and rest of committee. They won a little battle but lost an association.
We now have a larger group than the old eoa managed for many years. We are very active and friendly, with many new friends. We are also Free!
