Today was the 14th annual Seagull Race organised by the Lerryn Yacht Squadron. A total of 47 boats took part comprising a fleet of small tenders, canoes and 'made up boats'. The river was covered with blue smoke as the Seagulls started up. Some craft had as many as three engines! The youngest competitor was only 7 weeks old, and the oldest was 70, many were in fancy dress following the theme of 'Spirit of Eden' There were two races, both were down the River Lerryn to St Winnow point, where it meets the Fowey, and back to Lerryn. All craft took part in both races and there were many prizes for the competitors taking part. These were given out in the rather packed 'Ship Inn' A good time was had by all taking part...Just finishing was our aim! Our old seagull 102 did us proud.....I think I will use the 170 next year! Best wishes for the new year. Paul Finlay.
