The Magneto coils of the Villiers and Wipac both have a resitance of between 3 and 5 thousand Ohms. Test between HT and Earth.
If the motor has been 'swiming' at some stage in it's life, sadly the insulation seems to break down and the coil shorts in side. For the most part they either work or not, though I have heard of some that fail after they get warm, no spark.
Most spark problems are dirt on contacts, or a bare wire shorting in the case of the Villiers 'pot'
