Throttle Lever
Throttle Lever Position for Villiers Carbs
Recently
I have had a spate of customers
with requests for throttle cables. Almost
without exemption they have been Villiers Carbs, fitted to Forty models.
On
inquiring I have most times found that the engine has just been taken out of
storage and when the tiller arm has been raised, the cable is found to have
kinked.
Have
you spotted the fault?
In
every case the throttle lever had been moved nearer to the rubber grip, for ease
of use. Snag is, of course, that
there is not sufficient cable to then allow the tiller arm to be folded down.
The
correct position for the lever is nicely shown in the service manual, just over
2 inches from the pivot and at an angle of 45 degrees to the horizontal.
There is another reason for this, but being a discerning owner you would
know about fine throttle control!!
I
recommend every owner to have a copy of the Service Manual, well worth it’s
price, if it just stops people kinking cables!!
October 2006 I have just found a small number of new but soiled Villiers levers, I'm selling them at £20.00 each, cheaper that the old price!
