Easiest - and best - is to fit a replacement. You won't find a chrome one new, they're all black plastic coated now; functional but on a classic Seagull they just don't look right. It may take a while to find a used chrome one of course! Some people (including a very knowledgeable local gentleman who 'does Seagulls' for a living, wire brush the rust away, abrade the remaining chrome, treat with an anti-rust agent, and respray silver or black. Having the thing replated is an option - and the results can be very good. British Seagull themselves offer this service; but they caution that it can take a while as they wait until they have a suitable batch before sending everything off to the platers. If you find a local company who will do the job for you at reasonable cost (mainly they have a minimum charge) then it is vital that you tell them that the plating is not just decorative and must withstand the hard knocks and corrosive environment of salt water use. It is also essential that they remove nothing at all on the lower extremity that must remain a good snug fit in the water pump housing. Good luck!
