Hello Charles - I am fairly - but not absolutely certain that the casting is aluminium, but even if you get it welded I think it would be messy, with a strong risk of distortion. I would think to grind out and bond with Araldite or similar would be best. Would doubt that the mating parts are threaded. I have two or three of this type of US lightweight - out American cousins certainly new how to build down to a price, but these engines do start and run easily, and adjusting the advance/retard does give a smooth speed control. Rick
